CRIME STOPPERS: Manhunt for machete gas station suspect

WHITE CITY, Ore. -- Sheriff deputies are hunting for the man who used a machete to rob a gas station.

A male approached an employee at the 76 gas station in White City on Antelope Road and asked for a pack of cigarettes.

He told the worker he forgot his wallet and went back to go get it.

He came back wearing gloves, covering his face with a bandana and holding a machete.

He demanded cash and the pack of cigarettes.

A witness saw him run across Highway 62 and leave in a dark blue sedan with LED headlights.

"Usually, in a busy area like that, the opportunities for witnesses increases and the opportunities for video surveillance increases. So, we'll be investigating those avenues as well," Captain Tim Snaith, with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, said.

The suspect is described as 5'11", in his 30's and "scruffy-looking."

Detectives recommend employees at businesses like gas stations and coffee stands be as attentive as possible, notify law enforcement whenever noticing questionable behavior and keep limited cash on hand.

The case number is 02-21-17.
