KTVL CBS Channel 10 :: News - Medford Teachers Strike - Basketball league is happy to get gyms back

Basketball league is happy to get gyms back

By Jessica De Nova/KTVL.com

MEDFORD, Ore.-Kids in Manny's Basketball Association (MBA) said Sunday they were glad the Medford School District opened its facilities back up this weekend.

The MBA's Director said about 500 players formed the league's 54 teams and were able to once again play as scheduled.

The MBA said it was forced to cancel, reschedule and relocate games and practices during the first week of the teacher strike.

One basketball player said all the changes affected his team's preparation for game day. "Just staying in shape because we all do several sports and we're doing this to stay in shape and uh, prepare for other sports and activities later in life," said Bad News Ballers team member, Joey Setzer.

The School District said though facilities were open to organizations already scheduled to use them, their hours of operation were different during the strike, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekends.Basketball league is happy to get gyms back
