Central Oregon group comes to Brookings to feed fire evacuees

A group from the Patriots of Central Oregon packed up their make-shift kitchen Sunday evening after serving those who have evacuated because of the Chetco Bar Fire and needed food.

BJ Soper and the others came out on Friday. It was about a six hour drive from where they live.

"This is what we do, this is what it's about, being American, being an Oregonian, taking care of our neighbors, and taking care of each other when we're in times of need. This community to us sounded like it was in need," says Soper.

The group also helped people safe guard their homes from the fires. They cut down trees and cleared homes from bushes and other things that could easily catch on fire.
