Man identified in Grants Pass fatal accident

Oregon State Police say that a preliminary investigation revealed that Luther Masumoto, age 70, of Grants Pass, was traveling northbound on Highway 260 when he attempted to pass a dump truck traveling in the same direction.

Masumoto lost control of the vehicle, crossed both lanes of traffic and entered the northbound embankment and struck a tree.

Masumoto suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Emergency crews responded to a crash on Riverbanks Rd in Grants Pass on Friday.

The crash happened at approximately 2:42 p.m. at mile post 13 when a truck crashed into a tree, according to Rural Metro Fire.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene they found one person dead.

Oregon State Police is investigating the cause of the crash.
