Klamath Falls plane crash victim identified
KLAMATH FALL, Ore. —
Oregon State Police and Klamath County Sheriff's Office responded to a plane crash that left one man dead Wednesday morning.
Deputies say, the plane crashed in a field north of the South Side By-Pass near Homedale Road NE of the airport.
Klamath County Sheriff's Office identified the pilot as Abraham "Dutch" Van Rood, 79, of Klamath Falls. The agency said he had been a pilot for years and owned the plane for several years as well.
Sheriff Chris Kaber said the single-seat plane — red, white and blue — appeared to be an experimental aircraft. Witnesses reported seeing it fly erratically shortly before the crash.
The National Traffic Safety Board and The Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the crash.
