The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for areas of southern Oregon and Northern California for Thursday.

"Heavy rain can trigger landslides," says Bill Burns, engineering geologist at the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI). "With storms in the forecast, it's important to be aware of the landslide hazard and avoid burned areas."

The watch areas in Oregon include:

  • Jackson County
  • Josephine County
  • Curry County
  • Central Douglas County
  • Eastern Douglas County foothills
  • The Siskiyou Mountains and Southern Oregon Cascades
  • South Central Oregon Cascades

In California, the watch area includes

  • South central and western Siskiyou County
