Grizzly Peak Trail System Closed
ASHLAND, Ore. —
A popular hiking trail system is closed in Ashland as fire crews work on containing pop-up lightning fires.
The Grizzly Peak Trail System has been closed on a temporary basis and will be re-opened when deemed safe by the Bureau of Land Management and Oregon Department of Forestry.
ODF says there there are multiple fires still burning in the area ranging from a 1/4 acre to 2 acres. All are 100% lined and at least 30% contained.
Grizzy Peak Trail is a well-trafficked hiking trail that traverses and switchbacks through meadows and woods. Towards the top of the trail, a large fire scar is visible. The total trail distance (if hiked as a partial loop) is roughly 5 miles.
Shale City Road is also currently closed.
