Illinois Valley Fire District planning for moving Chetco Bar Fire
CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. -- The Illinois Valley Fire District is planning ahead in case the Chetco Bar Fire moves down the mountain, identifying which structures along Highway 199 are at risk.
The agency has been tracking the fire for the past few weeks, until they realized it was getting too close for crews on the coast to handle.
"The fire chief got on the phone to talk to the state and start working with ODF and started working with the incident management team. That's when we decided that we would need a Type Two team to manage this side of the fire," said public information officer Jason Bayless.
Bayless said the district will provide resources as needed. For now, they recommend residents look to the Southwest Joint Information Center for the most accurate evacuation information.
