Local army recruiter arrested on sexual corruption of a minor

David Johnson (Jackson County Jail)

Central Point, Ore. - Central Point Police Department arrested a man for luring a minor and sexual corruption.

David Johnson is a local army recruiter who met a 15-year-old Crater High School student on Facebook last week. Within a day, the conversations moved to Snapchat and became more explicit and sexual in nature.

After a couple of days, the student became uncomfortable, stopped talking to Johnson and reported the incident to a school security officer who went to Central Point Police Department. CPPD spoke with Johnson over Snapchat to confirm his intentions and conversations.

"As it progressed, [the student] became more and more uncomfortable with the sexual talk which included wanting to meet up somewhere and perform some of the actions they were speaking about on the Snapchat," Detective Josh Abbott said.

CPPD interviewed Johnson and the student and confirmed none of their interactions occurred on CHS's campus or in person at all. All conversations were limited to social media.

Johnson was arrested on Tuesday, but posted bail before going before a judge so charges and pursuing the case is up to the Jackson County District Attorney's office.

CPPD has been working with the Army to determine if there is any mental health issues present.
