Low fire activity for fire crews working on the Chetco Bar Fire, Sunday

Low fire activity for fire crews working on the Chetco Bar Fire, Sunday

This weeks thunderstorm has helped firefighters battle the Chetco Bar Fire. The Brookings area received 1/10th to 2/10th of an inch of water, and the Cave Junction area got up to 3/4's of an inch.

This has helped keep fire activity low and they expected the same activity for Sunday.

Crews continue to build lines that will be used in the future, and containment lines that are keeping the fire away from Brookings have been holding.

Crews are expecting little fire activity today.

"We're not expecting to see the fire make any big movement. They are working on the containment lines they have in place, those that are in construction. We are mopping up on some spots that we had in the last 10 days, so we're making progress on a lot of fronts," says Public Information Officer of the Chetco Bar Fire Terry Krasco.

The fire has burned more than 180,000 acres and is still 5 percent contained.
