New report lists Oregon and Washington among top 10 pet-friendly states
VANCOUVER, Wash. – Do you live in Oregon or Washington and love pets? According to a new report, you’re not the only one.
The report, from SafeWise, ranked Washington as the 10th-most pet-friendly state and Oregon as the sixth-most pet-friendly state in the U.S.
To determine the best and worst states for pets, SafeWise looked at various factors including which states have harsh anti-cruelty laws, number of shelters, veterinarians, and registered breeders, along with the number of pet-friendly restaurants, hotels and parks.
The organization analyzed 2015 data from the Bureau of Labor, the Animal Legal Defense Fund and online pet resources like BringFido.com.
Some contributing factors to Oregon’s high ran include their more than 200 dog-friendly trails, beaches and parks as well as 240 pet-friendly businesses.
Washington is also well-known for its pets in parks, restaurants, hotels and more. Washington also ranked high for anti-cruelty laws.
Maine was ranked #1.
