Sen. Merkley pushes back on oil proposals
MEDFORD, Ore. —
Senator Merkley is in Washington D.C. calling on the Trump administration to lay off oil drilling on the Oregon coast.
The senator says having oil leases in our state threatens the tourism industry and our environment.
"All of those are of far more value than anything that could occur from drilling. And when you drill eventually you leak and you do damage," said Senator Jeff Merkley
The senator says more than 100,000 Oregonians are employed in the field of tourism and more than $11 billion is brought in from visitors each year.
