Thousands of contraband items collected by court security in 2017
MEDFORD, Ore. —
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office reports that thousands of contraband items did not make it into the county's court facilities in 2017, thanks to the watchfulness of JCSO court security officers.
Court Security Officers are tasked with protecting people at both the Jackson County Circuit Court and the Juvenile Justice Center, and do so partly by searching and scanning visitors for prohibited materials like weapons and drug-related items.
Last year, 4,824 contraband items were found at Circuit Court, including a handgun, 1,727 knives and 146 drug-related items. At the juvenile building, 827 items were found including 329 knives and 15 drug-related items.
Other items collected included a fork, women's razor, pepper-spray and ammunition.
