U.S. Postal worker suffers major injuries in head-on collision
WEED, Cal. - After a head-on collision on Big Springs Road, a U.S. Postal worker had to be extracted from her mail delivery vehicle and transported to a hospital with major injuries.
At around 1 p.m. on Feburary 8, a Ford truck, driven by Donald Knox, 70, went into the opposite lane of traffic and onto the southbound shoulder.
The Ford truck collided head-on with a U.S. Postal mail delivery vehicle driven by Angela Akkerman, 51. The force of the crash caused the mail vehicle to become airborne and land on its side.
Akkerman was extracted from the vehicle and was transported to Mercy Medical Mt. Shasta for treatment for major injuries.
The reason for Knox driving on the wrong side of the road is still under investigation.
It was determined that Knox had not been driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
