Williams man who shot dog to death is still looking for dog's owner

There's an Oregon Statute that allows property owners to protect their livestock from dogs, in Williams, Oregon, on Thursday, May 11th, 2017 (KTVL/Ariana Rakhshani).

WILLIAMS, Ore.-- A Williams man is still trying to locate a dog's owner after he shot it to death.

News10 first brought you this story last week.

Philip Carpenter said a pack of dogs started attacking his newly rescued horse last Thursday. Carpenter said the dogs attacked his horse on his property, and because of an Oregon Statute, he shot one of the dogs to death.

Since this story aired, Carpenter said the owner came forward and was apologetic about his dog hurting the horse, but since the veterinarian bills were brought up, Carpenter said he has not been able to get a hold of him.

News10 did reach out to the Josephine County Animal Control officer who is working the case. He did not return our calls before this article was published.
