This is Walker Elementary School

ASHLAND, Ore. -- Walker Elementary School teachers go beyond the basics of a textbook and have students participate in programs to provide them with a well-rounded education.
One fifth-grade class goes on an 'Around the U.S.' trip. Students develop a travel plan for their trip voyage. Their teacher gives them a certain amount of money to use. The students then use the internet to find directions, hotels and learn how to stay on budget.
Students say they enjoy the project because they get to learn about different places across the country through their own research, not from a textbook.
Walker Elementary School are participated in Oregon Battle of the Books for the first time. Students in 3rd-5th grade make teams of 3-4 up and then read certain books. After a few months, each team competes against one another on the comprehension of the books.
The team that wins moves on to compete in the regional tournament.
