ASHLAND, Ore.-- Ashland fire crews say tall grass means bigger fires.
Fire crews want to remind residents to mow their weeds during the fire season.
It is a city requirement and a safety issue for firefighters.
Margueritte Hickman with Ashland Fire and Rescue says tall grass burns hotter.
"We are at the time of year where just about anything that's hot can start a fire and we're really trying to make sure that people are being safe."
Beginning Thursday Ashland is restricting any equipment that could cause a spark like chain saws and lawn mowers between 10 a.m and 8 p.m.
That restriction only applies to dry grass.
Meanwhile, Medford fire crews are also worried about brush around homes.
Justin Bates with Medford Fire and Rescue suggests keeping nearby trees and bushes short.
Firefighters are available to come out to properties and offer tips on how to keep homes safe for free.
