Firefighters are working to remove unwanted fuels behind threatened homes and along Highway 96. Evacuation orders are still in place. The evacuation center is at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds, 1172 Fairlane Road in Yreka.
Officials say the fire moved down to parts of containment lines in Seiad Valley and Highway 96, according to a press release from the U.S. Forest Service.
They expect the fire will to move south toward containment lines within the next 24 hours. The fire will also continue its eastward move above the Seiad Valley into the West Fork of Seiad Creek.
Fire officials believe the fire will move west to Four Mile Butte and Tims Peak and northwest towards Buck Mountain.
Firefighters are building a fire line on the fire's west flank above the Thompson Creek Drainage.
The Goff Fire has burned 16,765 acres and is 16 percent contained. It has closed many trails in the Klamath National Forest as well as parts of the Pacific Crest Trail.
Drivers along Highway 96 can expect delays because one lane is closed and officials are using a pilot car to guide traffic through the area.
