The accident happened around 7:39 a.m. Monday at the corner of A Street and Baker Street.
The 15-year-old girl was using the crosswalk to cross the street when a car traveling east on A Street struck her, according to a press release from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.
When emergency responders arrived, the girl was being assisted by bystanders. They began to treat her for multiple leg, hip, internal and facial injuries. She was taken to Asante Three Rivers Community Hospital. She was later transported to Portland for additional treatment.
Police interviewed the driver and witnesses. They determined that speed was not a factor. Police say the morning sun may have obstructed the driver's view.
The driver received a citation for failing to stop for a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
If you have additional information about the incident, call the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, (541) 450-6260 or (541) 474-6370.
