EAGLE POINT, Ore - 59-year-old Kim Pitzl was declared dead on scene Friday morning on Highway 62 after he collided head-on with a tractor trailer.
Oregon State Police say Pitzl drifted into oncoming traffic, colliding into the tractor trailer.
Pitzl was ejected out of his SUV after his car spun several times.
Just before the accident, OSP received calls for an erratic driver in a silver SUV on Highway 62. Callers reported the SUV was drifting in and out of its lane onto oncoming traffic, barely missing the bridge near the Butte Falls Intersection.
The SUV nearly collided with another car shortly before the accident, but the other driver was able to get on the shoulder.
Senior State Trooper, Bill Matson, gives advice on avoiding head-on collisions. "Hopefully that won't happen, but in the event that it does happen, you try and take [...] evasive action certainly slow down and get out of the way if at all possible. There's not a lot you can do."
The driver of the tractor trailer, Bryan Thompson, 44, of Medford, was not injured.
