CENTRAL POINT, Ore.-Mea, a four-year-old, red nose pitbull needs surgery.
She tore a ligament on her right hind leg and needs surgery before it becomes a serious problem.
Her owner is a homeless and cannot afford to help Mea.
He has had Mea since she was only four weeks old and recalls carrying her in his sweater as a puppy.
He says Mea is very protective of him, a great dog and has dealt with this problem for two years now. It becomes worse with cold weather.
Debbie Saxbury, advocate for the homeless, is helping to raise $300.00 for Mea's surgery at All Creatures Animal Hospital in Eagle Point.
Other animal hospitals were asking for $1,500.00 for the procedure.
The price All Creatures Animal Hospital quoted includes medication and aftercare for Mea.
Saxbury says pets are very important to the homeless because, "their dogs mean everything to them...everything...and so if we can help Mea, $300.00 is really a drop in the bucket." She adds any amount will help.
If the money is raised soon, Mea and her owner will still have a roof over their heads while Mea recovers from surgery.
Her owner is helping a Central Point woman around her home in exchange for room and board for him and Mea.
News 10 verified Mea's condition and the cost of her surgery with All Creatures Animal Hospital.
To simplify bookkeeping, All Creatures Animal Hospital asks all donations be mailed to Debbie Saxbury at 2580 Beall Lane, Central Point, OR 97502.
Checks need to be written to All Creatures Animal Hospital. They ask "Mea" be noted on checks.
