MEDFORD, Ore.-Today, Valley Properties Southern Oregon, LLC says some claims made by Parente regarding mold in it's rental property on Perrydale Avenue are not true.
On Thursday, Monica Parente discovered a three-foot-by-one-foot patch of mold in an apartment she and her 20-month-old baby were supposed to move into on Saturday.
The management company claims to have had the home professionally cleaned and walked through prior to the move-in date.
Valley Properties says it was not aware the mold was there prior to Parente's discovery.
Jeff Avila of Valley Properties Southern Oregon, LLC says, " No mold test was performed in a lab or on site with a test kit[...]there is no proof the mold is toxic."
Avila denies Parente's claim that he offered to allow her and her son to move into the apartment--regardless of the mold--so long as Parente signed a waiver.
He says he gave Parente the option of moving into another rental for the same price while Valley Properties got rid of the mold on the Perrydale Avenue property.
Parente turned down the temporary rental, claiming the neighborhood it is located in is not safe. She added the time it would take to fix the problem was undetermined.
Valley Properties voided Parente's lease and returned her money.
