MEDFORD, Ore.-Medford Police Department stopped a New Year's Eve party with about 150 minors present, some drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.
Medford Police responded to noise complaints at 10:55 p.m. for a home on Murphy Street.
When police arrived, about 50 minors fled the party.
More officers were called to the scene.
When police entered the house, about 100 more teenagers were found.
The party hosts were 18- and 20-year-old siblings. Their mother was not home and was unaware of the celebration.
Medford Police say it is a good thing they arrived an hour before the new year.
Any more time could have resulted in much more illegal drinking and smoking, and could have led to more dangerous situations for these teens.
"What we see when minors drink alcohol is they don't know how much they can consume. They don't know how much it takes to get them intoxicated, so they often times over-drink. Females become victims of sexual assault and we see a lot of the males drive and crash their cars, hurt themselves or hurt other people," says Lt. Mike Budreau with Medford Police.
Medford Police ensured all the minors were picked up by parents or guardians.
Some teenagers were cited for Minor in Possession of Alcohol.
The home's residents were cited for Furnishing Alcohol to Minors.
Medford Police want to remind you, it is also against the law to provide a place for minors to drink alcohol. Breaking this law three times will put you in jail for at least 30 days.
