Ashland Police received the call around 9:15 p.m. Saturday that a man had been cut with a knife on his forearm by an unknown male assailant in Hunter Park near Holmes Avenue, according to a press release from the Ashland Police Department.
Officers found the man who called at the intersection of Walker Avenue and Iowa Street. He was treated for a laceration to his upper left arm by Ashland Fire and Rescue crews then taken to the Ashland Community Hospital.
Police say when they first interviewed, the account varied and they believed he was under the influence of drugs.
Officers began to believe the report was fabricated. They say the man's account did not match observations made by officers.
Police did a more extensive interview at the hospital and determined the injury was likely a self-inflicted wound.
The man was admitted to the hospital and a mental health evaluation was scheduled, according to the press release.
Ashland Police are not releasing the man's name.
