MEDFORD, Ore. -- After the holidays, food banks like Access, struggle to keep it's shelves stocked.
Access prides itself on "helping people help themselves", but in the month of January, donations barely trickle in.
"During the month of January is when donations are needed most. Families usually focus on making the holidays special, therefore, families run low on funds shortly after the holidays are over," said Philip Yates, the Nutrition Programs Director.
To help pick up the pace, Access puts together food drives throughout the year to help provide the food and funds they need to feed the community.
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., Access partners up with Ashland's 25th annual observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, which is set at noon on Jan. 21 at the Historic Ashland Armory on 208 Oak Street.
Admission is free to this event, but donations of nonperishable food will be accepted and donated to Access.
Kelly's Automotive Service is also helping to "wipe-out" hunger in the valley.
On Jan. 24, it is National Peanut Butter Day and for the month of January, if you donate a jar of peanut butter at Kelly's Automotive in Grants Pass at 1661 NE 6th street or Central Point at 6034 Crater Lake Avenue, they will install a pair of windshield wipers for free!
In February, Access will kick off is food drive with Dutch Bros. called "Cans For Coffee."
Cans For Coffee will take place on Valentines Day, Feb. 14.
By bringing in three cans of food, Dutch Bros. is offering any 16 ounce drink for free, but only at it's Jackson County locations.
