On the road to San Francisco
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- News10 sent Dave De Rurange and photographer, Matt Valladao, down to the San Francisco 49ers training facility. Their practice fields are located in Santa Clara, next to big Silicon Valley companies like Cysco and McAfee. They spoke to some of the 49ers before they headed to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.
Before they got there, we made some fun stops along the way. At one stop located just South of Siskiyou Summit, Dave wore a 49ers jersey, waiving to semi-trucks as they passed by him on Interstate 5. At another stop, Dave and Matt enjoyed some deli sandwiches at Granzella's in Williams, California. Granzella's has a thorough sports lounge that's full of 49ers paraphernalia. There were 49ers jerseys and footballs, signed by former hall of fame players like Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. One of Granzella's managers explains how they got all the 49ers gear.
"Friends and family. They get it." Jeff Jenkins, Manager of Granzella's, said, "And different people that come in. Actually, the owner is friends with (Joe) Montana's Dad. There's a lot of ex-pro football players that stop by here every once in a while... We get a lot of people from Oregon, a lot of Ducks fans."
Dave and Matt found a hotel located near the 49er training facility. It's called Biltmore Hotel & Suites. Managers at the hotel say 49ers players, on occasion, go in-and-out of their doors. Usually, the players are at the hotel for booster clubs -- signing autographs for kids.
Dave spoke to Art Jenkins (no relation to Jeff Jenkins) about an experience with Colin Kaepernick entering the hotel.
Dave: "You actually saw Kaepernick come in here right?"
Art: "That is correct. He was walking through the lobby. He asked where the dinner was and I showed him where to go."
Dave: "How was that moment?"
Art: "'It was before he got his fulltime job now. At the moment, I didn't think he was going to be a starter this season. But now he's like, on his way to the Super Bowl."
Yes, he is.
Next, News 10's Dave De Rurange and Matt Valladao head over to the 49ers practice facility to talk to the players.
