ASHLAND, Ore.-The renovation of the Ashland Plaza is not affecting some nearby businesses.
A local shopper, Richard Kumro, said only because he keeps up with local news, he knew businesses in the plaza are not closed. "I can see why people might think that. Particularly if they're from out of town, or out of state and they're not familiar with the project," said Kumro.
Kumro noticed a little less foot traffic than he would've expected, but he's not sure whether to blame it on the renovation, or it not being tourist season in Ashland.
Jacob Kulyn, a clerk at Ashland Mountain Supply, on the plaza, said he noticed more open parking than normal Saturday morning, but the shop hasn't seen too much change in business. "You know it hasn't had that much of an impact. We do get a lot of foot traffic, so people are still coming on the sidewalks into the store and with the snow and weather the way it's been, our cross country ski rentals and snow shoe rentals have been up," said Kulyn.
The plaza renovation started at the end of Dec. and is expected to be completed in March.
