KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.-The Oregon Department of Justice said it is sending a new person every week to Klamath Falls to manage the District Attorney's office until the Governor's Office appoints a new D.A.
The DOJ has been running the Klamath County District Attorney's Office since the former D.A. retired, for health reasons, according to the DOJ.
A new D.A. was expected by Spring 2012.
Governor John Kitzhaber's Office said it is currently considering and taking new applicants to fill the position temporarily until the next election. "We solicit applicants. We conduct background checks and interviews with those candidates, um, and forward names to the Governor for consideration," said Tim Raphael, Communications Director with the Governor's Office.
The Governor's Office said it hopes to fill the temporary position as soon as possible.
The Governor will have the final say on who the interim D.A. will be.
The next elections are 18 months away.
