Around 6:39 a.m. Monday, Medford Police were dispatched to the Food 4 Less on Biddle Road because there was an alleged shoplifter fighting with employees, according to a press release from the Medford Police Department.
When police arrived, the suspect was no longer fighting with employees and was cooperating.
Police said an employee observed the suspect taking some cold medicine and a key ring. The items valued $30.
Employees contacted the suspect before he left the store. Police say the suspect ran and employees chased him. The suspect allegedly pulled a knife and threatened the employees. He said he had a gun in his car.
More employees arrived at the suspects location that is when the suspect gave up.
Police say they seized a knife but never found a gun. The stolen property was returned to the store.
Police arrested Leonel Olvera-Hernandez, Jr., 22, of Eagle Point, on robbery and theft charges.
