KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.-Klamath County Sheriff's Office said its services to county residents will take a hit if the Board of Commissioners follows through with a proposed cut of $1.4 million.
The proposed decrease will be for the 2013/2014 year.
The County's Chief Deputy, Martin Rowley said the Sheriff's Office already took a $1.2 million cut back in 2010.
He said the Sheriff's Office has pinched pennies wherever possible.
Rowley added that if Commissioners take the funds, the Sheriff's Office will have taken a 45% reduction over a three year period. "We are nowhere near an optimal level, but if we have the same dollars that were in the '12/'13 budget for the '13/'14 budget, we can run this office," said Rowley.
The Sheriff's Office ran on just a little over $8.03 million last year.
The County's Chief Financial Officer said Commissioners proposed the Sheriff's Office get $400,000 less in its general budget $1 million less from the County's Road Fund.
Budget meetings between the Sheriff's Office and County Commissioners will begin in April to decide on a budget for 2013/2014 and a final number is expected early in June.
