MEDFORD, Ore. -- Local companies lined up for a chance at financial help today and the people who help are called Angel Investors.
Two companies walked away with checks hoping to grow.
The big winner in the 2013 Southern Oregon Angel Investor conference Launch Category is a Rogue Valley medical device company called JettStream.
"It's a mask free nebulizer system for kids with asthma," says co-founder Sarah Cota.
According to Cota the $220,000 investment prize is a huge boost, "that's gonna get us about two thirds of the way to our raise getting us to market which will make us a profitable company."
JettStream isn't the only company walking away a winner, JOMA Films won the Concept Category.
Anne Lundgrem with JOMA Films is very happy, "we're a local film production company and we're making one film a year in the Rogue Valley, we've made a baseball comedy Calvin Marshall and the movie that just was screened at the Ashland Independent Film Festival called Redwood Highway."
Lundgren says they're they're working on a new production, "it's a sci-fi thriller called Black Road and it's set in the future in the State of Jefferson and it's about a government agent with an intelligent computer embedded in his head."
That project's budget is set for $200,000 and Lundgren says they are currently in search of backers, "still need about 75k the budget of that film and we're gonna shoot that later this summer... four weeks in the Rogue Valley and one week on the coast."
Lundgren believes other start-up owners should give the conference a try, "the concept contest gives a platform for emerging companies to share about their business vision to a community of investors and to the local community business men and women."
