Mike Marut grew up in and around Chicago, but never had the opportunity to see Oregon. He's excited to begin a brand new adventure in one of the most beautiful states he's ever seen.
Coming to us from Wheaton, Ill. - a suburb of Chicago - Mike attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He graduated in 2016 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, following the broadcast track. Taking advantage of journalism opportunities since high school, Mike started out doing play-by-play broadcasting and color commentating for an online broadcast platform, TheCube.com. He then went on to have work opportunities and internships with the Big Ten Network, CBS Radio in Chicago and WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, West Virginia. At Northwestern, he wrote for the sports desk of The Daily Northwestern, the campus paper, and reported and anchored sports shows for Northwestern News Network.
Mike is most excited about getting outside to explore Oregon, enjoying relatively mild winters and dry summers compared to Chicago and finally catching up on superhero movies and Netflix shows.
Mike decided to pursue journalism because it provides the opportunities to tell people's stories and discover something new every day in every story.
