Local lakes and reservoirs are gearing up for Free Fishing weekend on June 2nd and 3rd.

Rob Purdy and his wife purchased Fish Lake last year and says he’s ready for families and fun.

“Get them out here for families that don't want to spend a bunch of money, they don't have to buy a fishing license to get them out here to enjoy the day, give them something to try out and something new to do,” Rob says.

The weekends have become so popular, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife added more to the calendar.

“From the world, renowned Rogue River to ponds behind us and different lakes and reservoirs and each provides different fish for anglers to enjoy,” Dan Van Dyke with ODFW says.

Kaitlyn Purdy says it’s also a chance for children to get hooked.

“We love our lake because it's a 10 mile per hour lake, so kayaking and paddle boarding is perfect, it's an amazing fishing lake, they do stock it and people are catching right now,” Kaitlyn says.

Families can also stay at the resort. There are tent sites, full hook-up RV sites, and cabins. You can rent boats, kayaks, canoes or take the family for a hike.

“It's two and a half miles one way. It's perfect for little kids, a few hills here and there but it's not treacherous,” Kaitlyn says.

If you want to make a reservation at Fish Lake Resort, don’t hop online. You’ll have to call.

“We're sort of old school that way. We like being in person with our people and figuring out their needs not just over a computer,” Kaitlyn says.
