Pooch perfect: Nissan creates dog-friendly crossover concept

Would you buy a car based on pet amenities for your pooch? The UK Kennel Club conducted research that says, yeah, you would. At least 90 percent of you would.

That was enough for Nissan to create a dog-friendly concept in Europe this week. Nissan touts the X-Trail 4Dogs as the “pawfect” car for your four-legged friends. The rear cargo area is lined with wipe-clean leather and sports features such as a no-spill water bowl, a smart dog treat dispenser, access ramp and a clip-on harness hook.

The concept also makes use of “dog-cam” technology, which is integrated into the NissanConnect infotainment system and allows both dog and owner to see each other. This includes an audio link, which will enable the owner to talk to the dog.

Another cool feature: a 360-degree pullout shower and dog dryer.

Don’t drive with your dogs daily? All of the accessories are easily removed to create a usable cargo hold, and the spare tire is always accessible.

The X-Trail is a European model, with the closest equivalent in the U.S. being the Rogue. While we may not see a Rogue 4Dogs concept come stateside, Nissan has introduced an interesting suite of potential accessories for your pooch. We’ll be curious to see what the future availability might be.
