Over the weekend, a Medford man died after crashing his car into a pole. Jackson County Sheriff's Office says alcohol may have played a role in the fatal crash.

JCSO identified the driver as 68-year-old Jud Allen Dikes and said he died on the scene.

Dispatch first received a call about a crash along Table Rock Road and East Gregory Road of a Ford Escape that had crashed into a pole. According to the caller's reports to dispatch, the driver was unconscious and bleeding.

According to JCSO, bystanders performed CPR until units from Jackson County Fire District 3 and Mercy Flights arrived on scene.

Deputies determined Dikes had been driving south on Table Rock Road when his vehicle went into oncoming lanes for unknown reasons. The vehicle hit a traffic signal pole at the intersection. Dikes was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, according to JCSO.

Investigators found "evidence of alcohol use" at the scene, and toxicology tests will be done by the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office.
