Medford, Ore. - After landing on Friday for the inaugural flight, American Airlines's American Eagle plane received a water bridge welcome as it pulled into the terminal.

"It's more service, it's competition in an existing market, it's new service to Phoenix-Sky Harbor, opening two cities at once, it's growth," Bern Case, the airport's director, said. "It's opportunity for the entire region."

Case says this is the first time since 1978 that an airline has come to the airport and provided access to two cities right off the bat.

American Airlines flights fly to Phoenix and Los Angeles.

The Jackson County Commissioners all spoke at the ribbon cutting for the American Airlines kiosk at the airport.

"Every time we make one of these announcements, it has a profound effect on the overall economic vitality of our region and also on just the convenience and quality of life on the folks that live here," Commissioner Rick Dyer said.
