Courtesy GPDPS

A Baskin Robbins on Union Ave in Grants Pass was robbed on Saturday, December 1st. While the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety responded to the call within two minutes, officers were unable to find a suspect in the immediate area.

The scene was processed and referred to the Detective Unit of GPDPS for additional investigation. The suspect is described as a white male adult, about 20-25-years-old.

During the robbery, the suspect brandished a knife and threatened employees before fleeing on foot with cash. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the Baskin Robbins.

Through additional investigation, a suspect was developed. Officers were able to locate that person in the area of Westholm and SW K Streets. When officers began to approach a home in that area, the suspect again fled on foot, jumping over fences and into adjoining properties.

The GPDPS deployed K9 units to assist in tracking the suspect, and were able to find Mikel Fleming, 28, hiding near a vacant home. Fleming surrendered, and was taken into custody without further incident.

Fleming is facing the following charges:

  • Robbery in the First Degree
  • Unlawful use of a Weapon
  • Menacing
  • Theft in the Second Degree
