Bear Creek playground may get a new name
MEDFORD, Ore. —
Bear Creek Playground may soon go by a different name.
The Medford Parks and Recreation Department is requesting to change Bear Creek Park Playground to the Olsrud Family Community Playground.
Director Rich Rosenthal says he supports this change in order to honor the longtime commitment from Sherm, Wanda, and the entire Olsrud family.
Because not only did they contribute finances to the construction of the playground in 1988, but also lend a hand throughout the entire building process.
"We're honoring the past here and also looking forward to the future as we're trying to refurbish that very popular playground, arguably one of the most used playgrounds in the Rogue Valley," said Rosenthal.
The family who founded Sherm's Thunderbird and Food 4 Less are also supports of the Boy Scouts, ACCESS and other organizations in our community.
The Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed this name change at the end of last month and was unanimously in support of it.
It's now up to Medford City Council to approve it this Thursday.
