SISKIYOU COUNTY, Ore. — The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office say they recovered a body 2 miles upriver east of Wingate in the Happy Camp area.
Sheriff’s say it is unknown if the body is the same one spotted last month in the Klamath River or if it is the body of 42-year-old Benjamin Arthur Camarena.
In a statement Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey says:
“I am saddened that we have recovered the body of a deceased adult in the Klamath River but the recovery of the decedent should afford us the opportunity to determine whether or not the body is that of Mr. Camarena and we will have the opportunity to determine the cause and manner of death of the adult we have found, which, should provide important answers for this agency and the decedent’s family and friends. I know family and friends of Mr. Camarena are very concerned and we share those concerns as well. We will do all we can to positively identify the body found and provide answers to the family members of the decedent as soon as possible.”
An autopsy has been scheduled for later this week.
Anyone with any information about the body or have information about Mr. Camarena’s disappearance is urged to contact the SCSO’s 24-hour Dispatch Center at (530) 841-2900.
