Update as of 5:30 p.m.:
According to the California Highway Patrol, northbound traffic is now being allowed through. Southbound traffic is still being stopped at Mott Road.
Caltrans District 2 said they have shut down I-5 northbound at Fawndale and southbound at Mott Road due to a flare up on the Delta Fire at Gibson Road.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, the flare up is not a new fire or a spot fire. The fire is burning through an island of unburned fuel within containment lines near Gibson Road.
Aircraft and firefighters are on scene and I-5 has been closed due to the proximity of the fire to the highway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, there is no estimated time frame of reopening due to the unpredictable nature of the fire.
Drivers are being asked to use alternative routes such as Highway 89, Highway 299, and Highway 44.
