5 homes lost to Chetco Bar Fire, Level 2 evacuation for some areas

[UPDATE] Residents affected by the Chetco Bar Fire that live in the Cape Ferello Road and Carpenterville Road north to Pistol River and east and west off Carpenterville Road can now begin return to their homes.

Residents will have to present a picture identification to the Curry County Sheriff's Office along with re-entry materials. The forms can be picked up at either Riley Creek Evacuation Center on 94350 6th Street in Gold Beach, Ray's Market on 906 Chetco Ave in Brookings, or at any re-entry points until 8 p.m. tonight. Other re-entry points are located at Carpenterville at Rainbow Rock Road and Pistol River/HWY 101.

Residents asked to prepare in the event levels change. At this time authorities ask not to return large animals.

Brookings residents affected by the Chetco Bar Fire U.S. Postal Service may pick up their mail at the Brookings Post office on 711 Spruce St. in Brookings until further notice. The Brookings Post Office is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Reisdents wishing to pick up mail on Saturday may do so via the Post Office's "Dutch door" between 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All residents will need to present a photo I.D. to receive their mail.

LEVEL 2 EVACUATION NOTICE

The are around Cape Ferrelo Rd (Carpenterville Road north to Pistol River and west off Carpenterville Rd) will be allow about 700 residents to return to their homes.

Curry County Sheriff's Office and the Chetco Bar Incident Management Teams are working to help residents displaced by the fire back into their homes as soon as possible.

The fire has grown to 98,000 acres and remains at 0 percent containment.

Residents in Curry County can also sign up to receive alerts here.

Level 3 evacuation orders remain in effect at this time.

The Red Cross has set up an emergency shelter at Riley Elementary School in Gold Beach on 94350 6th Street. There is no shelter in Brookings.

CURRENT SITUATION:

Officials say, Monday's weather pattern will continue through the evening with cooler temperatures, fog and low laying clouds. Humidity will be slightly higher overnight and lighter winds have slowed the fire's growth compared to the previous days.

Brookings and the Harbor area will have some low-lying smoke in the area. Air quality will improve slightly but "unhealthy for sensitive groups" and should limit their exposure to the outdoors. . For more information about air quality, visit the Oregon Smoke Blog.

Fire crews say, the favorable weather conditions helped continue the construction of both direct and contingency inderect line on the south and southwestern flank of the fire between the Chetco River and Carpenterville.
