Cougar seen near elementary school overnight

The City of Ashland sent out an alert early Thursday morning that a cougar had been seen near Bellview Elementary School Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

According to the city, Ashland Police officers are patrolling the area as a precaution, but the cat has not yet been located.

Over the past few months, Ashland residents have reported numerous sightings of cougars - some near the area of Siskiyou Blvd and Tolman Creek Rd as well as near Southern Oregon University.

A call to Bellview Elementary School revealed that school is still in session for the time being and students will be kept inside.
