BEND, Ore. - A father who abandoned his 1-year-old son in the woods of central Oregon with a broken leg, cracked skull and meth in his system is going to prison for over two years.

Brandon Blouin agreed this week to enter an Alford plea to criminal mistreatment, endangering the welfare of a minor and felon in possession of body armor.

In exchange, charges of custodial interference, child neglect and abandonment of a child were dismissed.

Under the plea, Blouin's lawyer acknowledged that prosecutors had sufficient evidence to prove the charges.

Authorities say Blouin and the child's mother took the boy, Bradley Michael Thomas, from his legal guardian in West Virginia.

After the boy was taken, Blouin and the boy's 18-year-old mother apparently drove across country and went to live in a vehicle in the forest outside Bend, police say. The mother walked away at some point, and Blouin took the baby and went to look for her on May 10, 2018.

During his search, he set the little boy down in the forest and left him lying there, naked, according to officers.

The sheriff's office began their search for Bradley on horseback, also using drones and helicopters with thermal image sensors. Hours later, a detective who was assisting with the search located little Bradley lying in the dirt a mile away from the family's vehicle. He was taken to an area hospital.

Blouin allegedly told authorities he'd set the child down in the woods but couldn't find him.

The Bulletin reports that the boy now lives with his grandmother.
