Local Living: Dancin into a top award
MEDFORD, Ore. -- Their beginning is something out of a storybook. Dan Marca was in Monterey, California in 1995 looking at property with his realtor. They stopped for what he calls an unforgettable lunch.
"On the way out, this beautiful blonde came out and said 'have a nice day' and I looked back at her and said, 'well, have a nice day to you, too' and that was it," Dan remembers the day he met his now wife, Cindy.
Dan says that was really the day their winery was born. Their two first names make up the popular winery's name, Dancin. The two moved to southern Oregon in 1999 and knew they wanted to plant grapes. They bought their property in 2007, planted one-year-old vines in 2009 and had their first vintage the following year. The winery opened in 2012.
"We didn't want to open a tasting room until we had our own estate wine to share with our guests. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough. In two weeks, we were sold out," Dan said.
Over the years, Dancin has grown to include more wine production and more seating. Their menu changes up from time to time, but wood-fired pizzas and Cindy's famous stuffed mushrooms can always be found on the list.
"I grew up in an Italian family and you love on people with the food. And it's not just one helping, but several helpings," Dan says about the Dancin experience.
While many love the food, patrons come back for the wine. Wine Press Northwest agrees. The publication named Dancin "Oregon Winery of the Year" for 2017.
"I get goosebumps just talking about," Dan says about the honor, "We were floored and thankful and humbled even more than we are."
