Dog rescued after hit and run in Josephine County

A dog was found on the side of the road after being involved in a hit and run.

A good Samaritan took the pit bull to a local veterinarian, where it began immediate emergency procedures.

Community members named the dog the River since it was found on River Road, but the dog actually responds to the name, Sadie.

Heidi Buehner with Allen Creek Veterinary says, the dog suffered from multiple injuries and will have to have surgery. Eventually, the pit bull will have to have her leg amputated.

Once the community heard about it, via Facebook, Buehner says they received several calls to help the dog out with the surgery.

"The problem we're going to have is the left front leg has a nerve paralysis where she is unable to stand it's called a radial nerve paralysis and that's going to be something that will probably be lifelong," said Buehner.

The dog did not have any tags, so an owner has not been found.

More than $1,000 was raised to help the dog.

If the owner does not step up, Sadie will be put up for an adoption.
