Drivers walk away from head-on logging truck crash
Both drivers walked away from a head-on crash between two semi-trucks on Highway 101 Wednesday.
The accident was near the entrance to the Whaleshead Resort, between Carpenterville and Brookings. One of the trucks was hauling a load of logs, and the other was an unloaded log truck. The drivers suffered minor injuries, and both were able to get themselves out of their trucks after the collision. While they were examined on-scene by Cal-Ore Life Flight, the drivers refused a transport by ambulance to the hospital.
The Brookings Fire Department, Cape Ferrelo Fire Department, Oregon State Police, Curry County Sheriff's Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation all responded to the scene.
South Coast Lumber assisted at the scene of the crash by providing a self-loading log truck to pick up the load of logs, which helped reopen the highway to traffic.
