Pacific Power is working to get the power back on in Grants Pass.

Grants Pass Department of Public Safety says, crews responded to a call of a loud explosion on the 300 block of northeast D Street early Friday morning. Initial reports indicated that lighting may have struck a power pole.

Officers on scene say, power poles were damaged when a large oak tree fell on the 200 block of northeast D Street. Power lines fell across multiple cars parked in the Roe Motors Lot on 7th and E Streets. One poll fell in the Wells Fargo parking lot on 6th and E streets. Additional down power lines were located down 6th and B Streets.

News 10's Simone Braithwaite spoke with Margo Forni, the woman who's tree was in her yard.

"Its kind of like a kaboom, and that's actually what woke me up. Then I heard snapping and then a great big kaboom," says Forni.

She says this morning could have been a lot worse; the tree could have landed on her house.

"We are very blessed," says Forni. "It just missed our vehicles, I just don't know how, just angles."

Additional fire crews called to assist due to the area of damage and closures in the area.

More than 200 customers are without power at this time.
