Evacuations were ordered Tuesday night for homes near a 60-acre fire burning in the North Santiam State Recreational Area southeast of Salem, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry.

Fire crews say flames ignited in the area off Highway 22 during the afternoon. They say the fire jumped the Santiam River.

No structures have been lost.

The fire is about 20 percent contained, fire officials said.

A helicopter and several bulldozers have been used in the firefighting effort.

The recreational area is closed, ODF said.
