Additional units assist in Timber Products fire

[UPDATE: Wednesday] Multiple units mobilized to assist in a second fire Wednesday morning.

The fire continued to pose a challenge for Jackson County Firefighters due to the fire creeping into hidden voids and fueled by sawdust.

A strike team of structural engine companies provided back up mop up.

Crews eventually were released around 7:00 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.


[ORIGINAL] Firefighters battle fire at the Timber Products Mill in Medford on Tuesday.

Medford Fire & Rescue received the call around 6:45 p.m.

When on scene, fire crews encountered a working fire in a conveyor belt area.

At 8:30 p.m., the fire has been held by crews.

No injuries have been reported and damage is currently unknown.

Jackson County Fire District 3 assisted with one engine, an additional truck and a Battalion Chief.

Timber Products Company says it will continue to work with the fire department on clean up operations. There were no serious damages to the equipment inside the facility and do not expect a extended downtime at the mill.

"Safety is a top priority at Timber Products Company. When any incident happens, it is critical to ensure there are no lingering issues and the facility is safe for employees. The Medford particle board mill employs 96 employees. Those mill employees can contact their shift supervisors for more information on their individual shifts," Timber Products Company said in a statement.
