BROOKINGS, Ore.-- A full detour for US 101 has been put in place for public safety due to a widening sinkhole in Harbor, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Multiple holes have opened up in Harbor-- including one in the northbound slow lane of the highway. Erosion from the sinkhole has collapsed Shopping Center Avenue in Harbor.

The detour began Thursday night at 9 P.M, with signs along the 101 in Curry County directing traffic to the local detour.

ODOT advises travelers to reduce speed and use extreme caution. Delays are expected.

A sinkhole opened up in the parking lot of the Fireside Diner in December. Due to the latest developments, the restaurant has completely closed.
